Facial Feminisation Surgery (FFS) refers to a set of surgical techniques aimed at removing masculine facial features to achieve a more feminine appearance. Among the most visible masculine traits are a more prominent jaw, a larger or more angular nose, and pronounced brow ridges. In general, men also have a squarer chin, whereas women tend to have a rounder, more pointed one.
FFS – Facial Feminisation Surgery
Transgender surgery allows transgender individuals to achieve a body and facial appearance aligned with their gender identity. Facial feminisation techniques are highly sought after by transgender women, as they allow for a feminised, harmonious, and natural-looking face.
General information on Facial Feminisation Surgery
Who is Facial Feminisation Surgery for ?
In theory, anyone can undergo facial feminisation surgery, including cisgender women without any gender identity concerns.
However, these procedures are primarily intended for transgender women, individuals who were assigned male at birth but identify as female.
These different surgical techniques can be performed individually or combined in a single operative session.
What Facial Feminisation Surgeries are offered at Dr Brault’s practice ?
Facial feminisation surgery actually includes multiple procedures, each targeting and reducing masculine facial characteristics.
Gonioplasty – Jaw contouring
Gonioplasty is a procedure that reduces the square appearance of the lower face by resecting the mandibular angles. This results in a slimmer, more feminine jawline. Performed under general anaesthesia, this procedure leaves no visible scars, as the incision is made inside the mouth.
Genioplasty – Chin contouring
The chin is another gendered area of the face : in men, it is typically larger and squarer than in women. Genioplasty is the procedure that reduces the chin to create a softer, more feminine shape.
Rhinoplasty – Nose reshaping
Rhinoplasty is one of the most common procedures in facial feminisation. The length and width of the nose can be adjusted, and bumps or irregularities can be corrected. In the context of FFS, rhinoplasty generally aims for a shorter, narrower nose.
Frontoplasty – Forehead contouring
Frontoplasty is a bony remodeling procedure that involves shaving down and/or setting back the frontal bossing (brow ridges), to create a smoother, more feminine forehead.
